The members of The Music Cellar teaching team devote themselves to the musical education of our students, and we pride ourselves on our innovative techniques.
We offer private lessons in drums, guitar, piano/keyboard and bass. The majority of our students attend ½ hour private lessons, once a week. This private lesson format continues during the months of September to April inclusively. Lesson structure is individualized to match the needs and goals of each student. We recognize that the learning styles of students vary considerably, and we make every effort to alter our approach and methods accordingly. Input from parents is always welcome.
For those piano students who are interested, instruction in the The Royal Conservatory of Music program is available. We will prepare students for both practical and theory exams, and we are proud to say that our students have a history of producing excellent test scores! Students may choose to study from the RCM course exclusively, but most prefer a combination of classical music and more contemporary styles. Other students do not wish to have any classical music at all, and would rather focus all of their efforts on other types of music. It is always our goal to provide lesson plans that are specific to each student.
Throughout the month of May and first two weeks of June, private lessons are replaced by band rehearsals. Students are grouped according to age, level of experience and musical taste. The final five weeks of the season are devoted to the preparation for our annual Festival, which is a concert series held in June.
Students are given the opportunity to rehearse with other musicians, and then to perform at this full-production event. The Festival is a great learning experience and a fabulous way for performers to show off their skill in front of a cheering audience!
We also offer introductory programs in each instrument. These programs consist of 6 private lessons, and are intended to give students the opportunity to try something new. The lesson content is not restricted to a specific curriculum, and can be easily modified to suit those students who may have already had some musical experience. At the end of the 6-week program, students are given a written evaluation and a certificate of completion. Feedback is given to parents and there is an opportunity to ask questions and plan future goals.
Instrument rentals are available to those students enrolled in drumset and guitar introductory programs. There is a small rental fee added to the tuition rate, and students are provided with either a snare drum kit or an acoustic guitar, to use during the introductory period. The Music Cellar does not sell musical instruments, but we will be happy to provide guidance when purchases are planned.
